Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the free consultation and Roadmap Service?

The free consultation is a brief call (15 minutes or less) to discuss what's bringing you in and determine whether this practice is a good fit. It's not a clinical session; it's simply an opportunity to ask questions and decide whether to move forward.

Roadmap Service is a comprehensive intake process that includes a detailed clinical interview, wellness measures, and psychological screeners. It's where we gather the information needed to truly understand your situation and build a personalized care plan. Roadmap Service is a paid session and is required before beginning therapy or assessment.

Do you accept insurance?

Insurance paneling is currently in progress. At this time, services are private pay. If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide documentation (a superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network coverage before scheduling.

Why is the Roadmap Service required before therapy or assessment?

Roadmap Service ensures that whatever care you receive is grounded in genuine understanding—not assumptions or guesswork. The information gathered during this process allows us to make informed recommendations about whether therapy, assessment, or another path would best serve your needs. It's how we ensure you get the right care from the start, rather than discovering months into treatment that a different approach would have been more helpful.

Why do assessment fees vary?

Assessment fees reflect the scope of what's being asked. A focused evaluation answering a specific diagnostic question—such as ADHD or autism—involves fewer measures and a more targeted report than a comprehensive assessment exploring multiple overlapping concerns. The fee floor of $1,800 covers a focused ADHD evaluation; more complex assessments scale from there. The actual scope of your assessment is determined during Roadmap Services, where we discuss what you're hoping to understand and what level of inquiry will get you there.

Who are your services for?

Clinical services (Roadmap Services, therapy, and psychological assessment) are available for adolescents and adults. Supervision and professional consultation are available for pre-licensed and licensed mental health professionals in Texas.

How do I know which type of assessment I need?

You don't need to decide before reaching out. Roadmap Services is specifically designed to help clarify which approach—if any—would be most useful for your situation. During that process, we'll discuss your concerns, goals, and what you're hoping to understand, and I'll make a recommendation based on what we learn together.

What if I complete Roadmap Services and realize I don't need therapy or assessment?

That's a valid and valuable outcome. Some clients discover through Roadmap Services that they don't need ongoing treatment—they needed clarity, strategies, or a better understanding of how they're wired. You'll leave with a personalized roadmap regardless of whether the next step involves continued services here, a referral elsewhere, or simply applying what you've learned on your own.

What makes an evaluation at The Mending Place different from other psychological assessments?

Three things. First, measures are selected based on your specific question, not pulled from a default battery. Second, findings are interpreted through the full context of who you are—your history, your identity, your family system, and the environments you have navigated—rather than read in isolation. Third, the deliverable is built to be used. The feedback session translates results into language and direction that can actually inform what happens next, and a direct consultation with your referring provider is included at no additional cost so the report doesn't sit in a drawer.

Do you offer supervision for clinicians outside Texas?

At this time, supervision and professional consultation services are available only for mental health professionals based in Texas. This ensures compliance with state licensing requirements and allows for supervision grounded in the specific regulatory and practice context you're working within.
